Sam Hutchins has become quite brittle in the last few years. As the ship's eldest crew member Doc repeatedly finds himself in the default-father position where his natural skills as a curmudgeon often carry the day.

Hutchins signed on to T19 many years ago as a 5th Class Runner, and even then the story of how he sanded his own beard off seemed tired. Hutchins worked his way up to Stowage Chief, and as such is now in charge of all Gear, Tools, Cargo, Accessories and Spares.

Sam likes to think of himself as the toughest action figure on the ship, and out of a great general respect for vintage toys most of the rest of the crew agree to agree with him, at least until he is out of earshot.
