They were pale and translucent, and difficult to see on the white moon rocks even with her Tactical Scanner. They seemed to be a type of insectoid, but their central organ sacks were soft and distinctly warm.

They appeared to absorb the light and energy emitted from the luminous pools by dipping their long front limbs into the glowing plasma spring, occasionally holding them above the surface in a prayer-like stance. After a while they would leave the pool (perhaps only briefly) and retreat back into the dark corners of Gecko's rocky terrain. They seemed almost oblivious to the close proximity of space apes.

All of this fascinated Lt. Zee.
